Concordo.

A lot of people says that the best from Istanbul are a boat crossings. I agree. The urban landscape viewed from the shores and from the boat is absolutely fabulous. The first drawing is a view of Karaköy and it was made while me and my rebel princess (Nazlı) were in the boat waiting for it to go to Eminönü. The second one was made at Eminönü near the shore. But the view is not from Kadiköy, but from Karaköy, with the Galata Bridge on the left. The cold was so intense! The drawing had to be fast… The third drawing was made inside the New Mosque (Yeni Cami).

Nesli

Explicou-me então que o intuito é meramente comercial.

These were the last drawings of 2014. When I travel I don’t like “to study” the place I go. I would never give this advice to anyone that is going to travel… but the truth is that I don’t like to do it. I like to arrive the place that have a confrontation with reality with the minimum pre-conceived mental images possible. That’s how I was confronted with the streets full of Christmas decorations. Surprised, I asked Nazlı the meaning of all that since they don’t celebrate this event. She explained me that it all about a comercial intent. Turkish people don’t celebrate Christmas like we do. For them, it is something related with new year’s eve and, because of that, all the signs related with this event, from Santa Claus to christmas tree, are used with this purpose.

At Starbucks (they are a lot in Turkey) where we meet with Huseyin, Can, Mert and Semih. This night you could see a lot of snow everywhere in Eskisehir. Apparently there is a tradition that people gather in front of Espark (shopping mall) to do a snowball battle. It looks something peaceful but I heard some stories telling that it is not always like that. Sometimes the police is called to handle the crowd, some snowballs sometimes have stones inside, the people that are travelling in the metro are attacked by snowballs when the metro stops and opens the doors, among other things. This night, at some point, the Starbuck’s esplanade was completely bombed with snowballs. The staff didn’t like…
